P vs. NP

Fri Apr 8, 2005, 9:00 PM
I watched "NUMB3RS" tonight, the one with the bank robberies where Charlie (I think that's his name - the math kid) gets stuck on the Pvs. NP problem because he can't cope with what's going on in life.

I have often become "stuck" on certain stories, and I was wondering if writers have their own versions of "unsolveable equations" that we work on in order to avoid working on something that is writeable, i.e. producing a product. Heck, even NanoWrimo could be seen as a P vs. NP problem - it's easy to check if you have 50,000 words, but there are infinite ways to get there.

I think I have quite a few of these stories that are like P vs. NP problems - unsolveable equations that we can work on, but that never produce results. I need to focus more on work that produces results vs. work that doesn't...
